Historical Note: During the war, Dr. Julius Kühl served at the Polish Consulate in Berne, Switzerland, who, in this position, often acted in cooperation with Jewish and other refugee organizations, providing aid to refugees and internees in the German-occupied countries and in the neutral countries. Dr. Kühl saved hundreds of his fellow Jews by helping and providing them with passports and visas; aiding their attempts to enter Switzerland; and cooperating with charitable Jewish organizations and prominent rescuers, such as Recha and Isaak Sternbuch.
